Brief Introduction of Innovation and Skill Development Center
India is one of the youngest nations in the world, with more than 54% of the total population below 25 years of age. In the next 20 years, the labor force in India is projected to increase by 32%. Skill development training will play a crucial role in improving employability levels and enabling the youth for both employment and entrepreneurship. Skill development programs offer employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for the youth.
A significant gap exists between the academic curriculum and the actual requirements in the industry and other sectors. Skill development programs aim to identify the specific skill requirements, and plan, and implement the necessary skill development initiatives. While self-employment is one potential solution to address unemployment issues, the success of young individuals in self-employment ventures depends on their education and training in the required skills.
The primary objective of the Innovation and Skill Training Centre (ISTC) is to assist the community in achieving employment and entrepreneurship goals.
ISTC provides a range of sophisticated and comprehensive courses for aspiring young men and women in India. They offer Skill Development Courses in ANM, Computer Science and Applications, Graphics, and Digital Marketing, as well as vocational training in Electrician, Plumbing, and Carpenter.
ISTC was initiated in Jamia Nagar, South Delhi, in 2012 under the Human Welfare Foundation, and it has since expanded to encompass 11 Active centers across 8 North Indian States.
It is a mission of the economic empowerment department through which the empowerment of the underprivileged is done through life skills training to make them valuable citizens of this country, thus contributing to the overall development of this nation. ISTC training aims at the empowerment of the underprivileged, the rural poor, the urban poor, the tribal poor, and disadvantaged women through appropriate employable skills training. ISTC’s goal is to impart skills, knowledge, and a positive attitude.
Why Skilling is Important for Human Development!
It can make a genuine and profound difference in the lives of young people, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds and/or with less successful educational trajectories.
However, it is not simply for those who can’t ‘do any better’ than this, who are ‘second chance learners. ISTC is for learners of all abilities, life stories, and aspirations. An important part of ISTC’s ability to make a difference in people’s lives comes from its conventional role of preparing them for the labor market. However, again, this is an over-simplistic account.
ISTC is not about narrow employability but also about the preparation of young adults to become mature adults within occupations, communities, and broader society.
